Very Ear-Phoney Behavior

| Friendly | June 3, 2016

(I am on a crowded train. A seat opens up in front of me and I take it. A few seconds later, the space that I’d occupied fills up with a mother-daughter pair. The mother is in her sixties. I have my earphones on, but I could still hear everything around me as the volume of my music was very low.)

Mother: *loudly* “Oh, the seat is taken already… I wanted it.”

(I get up and offer her the seat.)

Mother: *to daughter in a very offended tone* “Do I look that old that she has to give up that seat for me?!”

(I turn around and glare at her.)

Daughter: *loudly* “I think she can hear you!”
