Ve-gone!, Part 2
I work in a small owner-operated (owner is my brother) Texas-BBQ themed restaurant in the UK. Our menu is very meat-heavy; our grill hasn’t seen a vegetable that wasn’t wrapped in bacon in years.
I am helping out the servers by waiting on a table for four. One of them is tutting as they peruse the menu:
Customer: “This is just sad. Barely any vegetarian options, and no vegan mains!”
Me: “I’m sorry, but this is a BBQ restaurant, so the menu will be meat-focused. Our menu is clearly written outside and on our website.”
Customer: “So you’re saying it’s my fault that you don’t have any vegan options?”
Me: “I’m simply stating that we never claimed to have extensive vegetarian or vegan options, so perhaps—”
Customer: “—you better come up with some vegan options or I’m going to get your [slur for black people] a*se sacked and sent back to the job centre!”
Me: “We do have vegan options! They’re called ‘reservations somewhere else’. Time for you all to go.”
The customer stands as if wanting to start a fight, but I stand my ground, and his other three friends drag him out, calling him a d*** and asking, ‘Why do you always do this?!’
