Use Your Words, People!, Part 3
During the last hour or so of my long shift, a lady walks into the store.
Me: “Hi there! How are you?”
I don’t even think she really responds, but either way, I have acknowledged her presence and make sure to pay attention if she picks up any clothes to try on so I can get her a fitting room. However, she picks up no product and makes her way to the door.
I think the interaction will end here, but suddenly, she calls me over to the exit.
Customer: *Passive-aggressively* “Are you really going to let me leave without asking me if I need any help? Shame on you!”
And she just left!
I was baffled by this and asked my coworker if I had been rude or hadn’t greeted the customer. [Coworker] says that she heard me very politely greet the woman.
I guess I’m just baffled that some customers seem to take offense to the strangest things and seem to make problems when there are none. Of course, I would have helped her out and was ready to do so, but clearly, if she needed it, she would have said so since she had no problem going out of her way to insult me.
