(My dad is recovering from surgery at a local university hospital. I’m at home, old enough to be alone by myself. We get a call on the house phone and the caller ID says it’s the university, so I assume it’s mom calling from the hospital.)

Me: Hello?

Caller: Hello! I’m calling from (local university), is (dad) home?

Me: *super confused, thinking don’t you know where he is??* Uhhh, no?!

Caller: *obviously confused by my reaction* Okay then, I’ll call back at another time…

(I called mom immediately to make sure they didn’t loose dad. That’s when she told me that the university calls dad all the time asking for donations since he is an alumni.)

So I was working the cash register and I asked if they would like any cookies

Me: Would you like any cookies or chips with that?

Customer: No I don’t want any chips, but I’d like a cookie.

Me: Of course! Which one would you like and how many?

Customer: I just want one and i want a white macadamia cookie.

So I go to get the cookie from the box, and he stops me.

Customer: I want the second one from the front!

So I grab the second one from the front like he asked.

Customer: I said the second one!

At this point he’s holding up the line and yelling that I got the wrong cookie.

Me: Sir, I grabbed the second one from the front.

Customer: No you didn’t!

I’m trying very hard not to be rude and roll my eyes. I finally grab the “right” cookie he wanted.

Me: Have a good day!

Customer: Yeah, yeah, whatever.

I’m waiting in line for a concert, together with my mom – a tiny little lady of 56. I’ve been standing there for over three hours, with only four people between me and the door. I’m used to it getting crowded and pushy once the door opens but this takes the cake.
A young man who I have not seen the whole time i was waiting roughly shoves passed me, elbows my mom to the side and triews to get inf ront of my friends – the four people in front of me – too.

me: “Excuse me. I think you were standing way more at the back of the line before.”

man: *smugly* “So? Now i’m standing here!”

me: *to my mom , who is frightened out of her wits* “Take my hand.”

Dragging my mom along, i push the fellow out of the way with the same roughness he pushed me and make it back to my place in line.
Unfortunetely the venue makes using the wardrobe mandatory, and before we get our coats and bags checked in and reach the stage, a crowd of at least four rows thick has formed. My friends in front an center and me unable to reach them – and the pushy guy from earlier smugly beside them.
Sometimes i wonder why I still show up three hours prior….

So I have a close online friend who collects board games and who had recently been struggling because his family had to put his mother on Hospice care at the start of the month. To try and cheer him up even a little I bought him a Cannibal themed board game knowing it would fit nicely into his collection, and only told him I was sending something.
Sadly his mother passed away.
The same day the game arrived.
Since he was with his mother for almost 24hrs straight it’s near 2am his time when I receive a text message

Friend- I love you, your timing is macabre as F*** but I love you. Finally got home, and the Donner Party board game…

Me- Lets face it if my time wasn’t macabre it wouldn’t be me. It’s really fun to play though I swear.

Friend- I will play it as soon as I can, I will tell the tale of the arrival, and it will be awesome

And that’s how the universe decided to give my friend a macabre board game on one of the worst days of his life, and a smile as a result.
