Two Trucks, Zero Lessons

, , , | Legal | May 25, 2026

At my workplace, there are three security trucks shared by the security team. Sometimes one or two trucks are not in use at a time and are left parked by one of the buildings. We have members of the public driving through during the day, with some areas of the property being customer-serving and others being employee-only, but no heavy security keeping customers from accessing the outside of employee buildings.

A few weeks ago, one of the security guys brought one of the trucks up to the parking spot, swapped to a different truck, and left the keys behind in the first truck. Someone happened to discover it and took it for a ride, crashing it into a ditch a little way away.

The security guy came back and discovered the truck missing, so he got out of his truck to investigate… and left the keys in the truck.

You can guess what’s coming.

The thieves made their way back, found the second truck, and hopped in. This time, they took it for a joyride and made it down the highway before abandoning the truck.
