Tumbling Down The Priority List
(It’s President’s Day, so my fiancée has the full day off while I have half a day off. I work at a private school that is seeking a new scheduling assistant, and I think my fiancée would be a perfect fit for the job. She has already updated her résumé, but she has not started on her cover letter. We are sitting at our respective computers.)
Me: “So… you gonna try to get your application in today?”
Fiancée: “Yes. I just need to do my cover letter.”
Me: “I’d love to read it when it’s done.”
Fiancée: “Yeah, I’ll ask you to.”
Me: “I’m sorry for pestering you about it. I just love the idea of you working at my school.”
Fiancée: “It’s okay. It’s just that right now, I’m on Tumblr, writing a lengthy, dada-ist bull-s*** post in response to a weird Skype ad. And that’s important to me.”
Me: “That’s okay, hon. You’ve got your priorities straight on that one.”
