Trust The System, Not The People
I work the front desk at a hotel. If I had a nickel for every time someone called up wanting to pay for their room via credit card on the phone, I would be a very rich lady.
Caller: “Why can’t you just charge it over the phone?”
Me: “Some guests could be using a stolen card and we would never know. We need verification that the card being charged is in fact, your card. If you can’t present it at check-in with an ID or fax or email me a copy of the card and your ID, there’s no way we’re going to be able to process it legally.”
Caller: “But I am who I say I am! Can’t you just trust me?”
