Trust But Disqualify

| Working | January 26, 2013

(I broke my foot earlier this year and was on crutches for six weeks. During that time, I found that I could still do most of my usual routines, so long as I had a means to carry stuff around in a bag. One day after filling up my car at the pumps, I go inside to pick up some snacks.)

Me: “Can I get a bag to gather up some snacks?”

Clerk: “Sure!”

(After I’ve crutched around a few minutes getting my snacks…)

Me: “Thanks for trusting me with doing that.”

Clerk: “Oh, it had nothing to do with trust. I knew I could outrun you if it came to that.”
