This Family Is A Bit Short-Handed
(My entire family is short, and our house has high ceilings. The light bulb in my room blew out six months ago, and still hasn’t been changed.)
Mum: “You need to change your light bulb.”
Me: “I can’t reach.”
Mum: “Stand on your bed.”
Me: “I can’t reach.”
Mum: “Use the step stool.”
Me: “I told you, I can’t reach!”
Mum: “Ask your father to change it.”
Me: “He can’t reach!”
Mum: “How did you change it last time?”
Me: “[Ex-boyfriend] did it.”
Mum: “Why didn’t he change it before you broke up?”
Me: “I kicked him out a week before it blew.”
Mum: “And you didn’t think to get him to change the light bulbs before he left?”
(She walks off, muttering about not planning ahead. It has been almost two years, and I still haven’t had a new light bulb. A few other bulbs have blown since, to the point where we all keep small torches on us!)
