Track Suit Yourself

Studying multimedia in the nineties at a small college that had just started offering the subject was… interesting. Nothing was really in order; students could attend for years and disappear from the enrollment, starting all Macs at once in a classroom tripped the breaker, and so on.

The teachers were heroes, though. One in particular was always there to help, eating his lunch while helping students with assignments and basically teaching himself so he could teach us. Great guy.

He always wore an Australian tracksuit. For those who know, this was a hardcore or ‘gabber’ subculture uniform, and he very much was a ‘gabber’.

One day I saw him looking glum, so I asked what was up.

Turns out the administration had told him to wear a jacket and tie to work or face consequences.

The next day I saw him again, looking bright and upbeat as always… wearing his Australian tracksuit, with a tie and jacket.
