Totally Killing It At This Relationship

(I’m watching a TV show about a brilliant pathologist and his partner, a keen detective. The detective is having a romantic evening with her boyfriend, but keeps getting distracted by her serial killer case. Her boyfriend is very understanding. My platonic life partner is in the other room. I call out to them.)

Me: “Date a guy who lets you talk about serial killers!”

Partner: “What?”

Me: “The detective. Her boyfriend’s awesome.”

Partner: “Ah. I, too, went through a serial killer phase.”

Me: “…”

Partner: “Um, that’s not what I meant! I just read a lot about them when I was younger.”

Me: “Suuuuuure.”
