To The Letter
I work in an office with visiting officers.
Caller: “Can I speak to [Name that is close to a colleague’s name but not quite].”
Me: “I’m sorry, she doesn’t work on Mondays. Can I help at all?”
Caller: “She’s sent me a letter.”
Me: “Okay… is there a problem?”
Caller: “It says she’s going to come out and visit me.”
Me: “Okay, and is there something I can help you with?”
Caller: “Well, I just want to know if she’s going to come and see me.”
Me: “What does the letter say?”
Caller: “It says she’ll visit me on [date] at 11:00 am.”
Me: “Okay, then yes, she’ll come and see you like the letter says.”
Caller: “I just want to know if she’s going to come and see me.”
Me: “I promise you that if the letter says she will visit you on [date], then she will come and see you then.”
Caller: “So, she will come and see me?”
Me: “Yes, that’s right.”
Caller: “Oh, thank you. That’s all I needed to know.”
Cue me banging my head against the desk.
