Time For A Recruiter Rebooter

| Working | December 18, 2015

(Somehow I’m a target for recruiters. Despite never speaking to them before or handing out my number they call me every month trying to earn their commission by finding a placement for one of their candidates.)

Caller: “Hi, we haven’t spoken before but I understand that you would be the best person to speak to about recruitment.”

Me: “Err, yes, I guess, but before you start I should state that we are actually looking to let people go and won’t be hiring any time soon.”

Caller: *seemingly ignoring me* “Well, I have this great candidate that has specifically mentioned wanting to work at your company.”

Me: “Well, okay. Send his details over and I will take a look.”

(He does, the guy in question is skilled only in areas that would not be of relevance. Before I could email him back.)

Boss: “Hey, [My Name], did you tell some recruiter that we are hiring and that this guy would be ideal?”

Me: “What? No, the opposite.”

Boss: “I don’t want you giving out my number and you know we are not hiring. I looked at this guy’s details; he’s rubbish.”

(I try and try again to explain that I did nothing of the sort, but he just wouldn’t believe someone would lie so blatantly. I eventually get a call back from the recruiter.)

Caller: “So, did you see the details?”

Me: “Yes, I did, and I had a rather interesting conversation with my boss… Don’t ring back. Don’t call anyone else here. You are officially blacklisted.”

Caller: “I only said that to—”

Me: *interrupting* “You only said that to worm your way in. Now I’m hanging up.”
