This Service Gets A Big Fat ‘Eff’

We have just had an insanely, unexpectedly busy shift. We were expecting 40/50  people because it’s January and it’s quiet, but instead we had 120+. Not just that, but also with the entire B squad on.

I’m talking prep chefs on instead of service chefs, and the manager doing the bar first time in four months, and with two girls working, they should just straight up fire them because they’re so lazy and chatty.

Anyway, I’m working so hard in my section, plus doing loads of extra bits like food and drink running, and one of those girls (who has literally been here longer than me) couldn’t figure out how to settle a table’s bill. I was nearby, so I stepped in.

I ask this table for ten, how they want to pay:

Me: “So are we splitting the bill equally or by items?”

Table: “We want to split the bill by item, and each of us pay for what we had.”

I must add I’m in the UK and this is very rare. My wall came down, it just slipped out, and I said very loudly to them:

Me: “Ugh, f*** off!”

And they all stared at me for three seconds… and then burst out laughing!

I apologised over and over again, but they thought it was funny and apologised for asking to split it. My manager laughed it off at the end of service, but said I was lucky cause it could’ve gone either way. London service is a totally different style!
