This New Management Dynamic Is Also Called The Modern World

, , , , , , , | Working | July 9, 2025

We’ve just been introduced to our new shift manager, [Female Manager]. She is ex-military, calm under pressure, and by halfway through day one, we can see that she clearly knows how to run a kitchen line like a tactical operation. Most of us are relieved. Anyone who can juggle fryers, drive-thru orders, and short-staffed chaos without yelling is a win.

Everyone except [Sexist Coworker], who says he “struggles with women in authority,” which translates to “I’m a weak and sexist pig who is easily intimidated by women in power, and they should be subservient to men.”

During her first team briefing, [Female Manager] began assigning tasks. When she got to him:

Female Manager: “[Sexist Coworker], we’re low on lettuce, go refresh the prep station.”

[Sexist Coworker] just shrugs. A few hours later, [Female Manager] is checking on us, and it’s apparent that [Sexist Coworker] hasn’t done a thing. When challenged on this:

Sexist Coworker: “If [Male Manager] wants me to do it, he can tell me.”

The entire line pauses like someone has pulled the emergency stop cord. [Female Manager] doesn’t react. No yelling. Just calmly picked up the radio and called upstairs.

[Male Manager] came over within a minute, expression blank.

Male Manager: “If [Female Manager] tells you to do something, you do it. You don’t get to pick who your boss is when you’re wearing a name tag and a visor.”

There were a few quiet laughs from the fryer team. [Sexist Coworker] sulked his way through the rest of the shift, then pulled [Male Manager] aside.

Sexist Coworker: “Is this how it’s gonna be now? I’m not comfortable with the management dynamic.”

Male Manager: “No problem. There’s an opening at the [Other Location] branch. Want me to set you up for a transfer?”

He agreed and was assigned there just a few days later. As he’s walking out on his last day:

Female Manager: “You think he knows the entire [Other Location] management team is women?”

Male Manager: “He will by lunch.”

Turns out, he didn’t make it to Friday.
