This Kid Has Drive
My six-year-old son is autistic and loves buses. We’re waiting for the bus to the hospital for a speech and language appointment when he suddenly states.
Son: “I want to drive the bus, mummy.”
I try to inform him gently that he’s too small to drive the bus, and we continue with our journey, getting on the bus with no problem. Our appointment went well at the hospital. The return bus pulls up, and my son pushes in front of the queue to board and loudly asks the driver:
Son: “Can I drive the bus?”
The driver, a young lad in his twenties, smiles at him and says:
Driver: “Of course you can!”
I rush up and quickly pay for our tickets, encouraging my son to sit down. I then say to the driver:
Me: “You know, we wouldn’t get far.”
Driver: *Chuckles.* “No, but it’d give me a break!”
I couldn’t help but laugh before sitting in my seat and explaining to my son that he can’t drive a bus until he’s older… along with (among other thing) the reason he couldn’t grow tall enough to touch the moon…
