This Early Bird Gets No Worms

One early morning before opening, one of the restaurant cooks comes in and forgets to lock the door behind them. I realize this when I step back out into the restaurant, carrying some supplies, when I see a woman has sat herself in one of the booths.

Me: “Ma’am, we’re closed for another hour.”

Customer: “Oh, I don’t mind. I’ll just wait.”

She just… sits there, facing forward. She’s not looking at her phone or reading a book, just smiling forward creepily.

Me: “Ma’am, you can’t be in here until we open. There’s nothing I can serve you until then.”

Customer: *A bit testily this time.* “I said I don’t mind. I’ll just wait.”

Me: “Lady, I mind. I want my peaceful opening side work time with no one in the restaurant! I’m about to spend ten hours serving you people, I want an hour of peace!”

The customer stands up, glaring at me.

Customer: “Well, I can certainly tell when I’m not welcome!”

Me: “Yup! They’re called opening hours!”
