This Customer Service Really Sparkles
When my friend and I are about seventeen, I treat him to a simple yet very nice dinner to celebrate his birthday. When ordering dessert:
Friend: “Can I get a sparkler on my ice cream? It’s my birthday!”
Waitress #1: “Unfortunately, we are no longer allowed to do that because of fire and health hazards.”
It was a bit silly anyway, and we happily finish our meal.
One month later, it’s my birthday and we do pretty much the same thing: we have a fun day and my friend treats me for dinner at a different restaurant.
As we are checking the menu for a dessert:
Friend: “I understand why they couldn’t do it, I’m still a bit disappointed I couldn’t get a sparkler on my birthday.”
We order dessert and chat a bit more. Soon, the waitress comes back and sets our desserts down… with a sparkler in my ice cream!
Waitress #2: “It’s your birthday, right?”
We made sure to tip (not quite standard in Holland) and come back more often.
