They’re Singing To Different Tunes

(I’m four years old. It’s about seven am on a weekend and my dad is sleeping in my parents’ bedroom when I come running in and jump on his chest.)

Me: “Dad! Dad!” *starts singing Disney tunes loudly*

Dad: *groans, tries to shush me*

Me: *continues to sing shrilly*

Dad: *cracks an eye open* “You obviously haven’t heard that singing before you’ve had breakfast brings extreme bad luck.”

Me: *instantly shuts up*

Dad: *smiles and falls back asleep instantly*

(I continued to believe that this was common knowledge, never singing before breakfast until I was 22 and mentioned it when we were sharing funny stories from my childhood. He had absolutely no memory of any of it.)
