They’re Lobbyists

, , , | Right | March 16, 2021

I work as an usher in a small movie theater within a museum. The lobby for the theater is quite small; it’s just a single room large enough for people to queue up in. This happens before the show with just a few people waiting on the handful of benches we have at the front of the queue.

Guest: “Oh, no! Is there nowhere to sit?”

Me: “Sorry, it doesn’t look like it right now. But the show is going to start very shortly.”

Guest: “Oh, okay. So where is the best place to watch from?”

Me: “Well, most people like to sit right in the center or maybe a couple of rows back from the center.”

Guest: “Is that the screen there?”

Me: “Sort of; it’s just on the other side of the wall.”

She goes and gets in the queue but stands in the middle of it, staring at the empty wall.

Guest: “One more thing: how long is this movie?”

Me: “About forty-five minutes.”

Guest: “Goodness! Don’t you think it’s a little crazy to make people stand for that long?”

Me: *Finally getting it* “Ma’am, this is just the lobby.”

Guest: “Oh.”

She blushed and scurried off to go wait in line with everyone else.
