They’re Just Getting Arted

(On the last day of classes for the semester, and probably the last class of the semester for most of the students, we are presenting projects. This is some of what transpired during the final presentation. Note that this student has been known for having “debates” with the professor about meaningless, mostly irrelevant topics.)

Student: “One of the band members had shot himself and died, but the band took a picture of the scene and used it as an album cover later.”

(The photos and album cover was on screen, both of which were rather graphic.)

Professor: “Get that off the screen!”

Student: “No, no, it’s fine! It’s art!”

Professor: “Get it off the screen!”

(Not two minutes later:)

Student: “And here is an example of performance art that some people do.”

Professor: “Is this a snuff video?”

Student: “No, it’s fine.”

Video: *shows a guy setting stuff on fire and then cutting himself with a knife*

Professor: “TURN IT OFF!”

Student: “It’s fine! It’s art!”
