They Can’t Even Get From A To B

, , , | Right | November 24, 2021

This is about five minutes into a phone call trying to find a part by description. It is worth noting that my company name is hyphenated. Think like A-B Company. For whatever reason, our email domain is just @A-dot-com, not @A-B-dot-com.

Caller: “I have a drawing with more dimensions. That might be easier. Can I email it to you?”

Me: “Sure, you ready for the email address?”

Caller: “Yes.”

Me: “It’s sales at a-dot-com.

Caller: *Slowly* “Sales… at… a-b-dot-com.”

Me: “No, I’m sorry, that’s sales at a-dot-com. Just a-dot-com.”

Caller: “Right, a-b-dot-com.”

Me: “No, ma’am, just—” *spells it out phonetically* “-dot-com.”

Caller: “Oh…  Okay, I sent it, but I just got a ‘cannot be delivered’ message. It’s sales at a-b-dot-com, right?”

Me: *Giving up* “Can I have your email address, please? Then you can hit reply.”
