There Is Obi-Wan Way You Can Get Him To Do It

(A bunch of us are camping. Two friends have an autistic son who is a total sweetheart and the best fanboy to hang out with. He’s 14. We decide to do a zip line and our friends buy the tickets. Once we get there, the son refuses to get out of the car. He has some aversion to the zip line or watching us do it. We let his decision stand and start gearing up. He joins us at the waiting area.)

Friend: “[Son], are you sure you don’t want to do this?”

Son: “I’m not doing it.”

Me: “I’m doing it. I’ve always wanted to fly like Obi-Wan chasing Zam Wessel. Or Harry Potter at Quidditch practice.”

(Without a word, but with a grin, the son reached for a helmet and harness. Apparently, it was too good to pass up the chance to be like Obi-Wan Kenobi.)
