There Is No ‘Upside’

(We’re in a grade three, learning about phonics.)
Teacher: “Today we’re going to be learning about words that end in “-ide”. Can anyone think of some words that end in “-ide” that I can write on the board?”
Student #1: “Decide!”
Student #2: “Outside!”
Teacher: “Very good! Can anyone think of more words?”
Student #3: “Suicide!”
(The teacher pauses, completely caught off guard.)
Teacher: “You’re right, [Student #3]. But because that’s a very serious grown up word I’m not going to write in on the board. Can anyone think of some other words?”
Student #4: “Genocide!”
Teacher: “Okay, so moving onto the next lesson…”
