The Weight Of Words

I worked in printing, and paper is weighed by GSM. The higher the number, the thicker the paper.

A lady I worked with was on the phone with the printers and kept mispronouncing it.

Coworker: *On the phone.* “I want a big jism, but let me check.”

At that word usage, all of us look up from our desks.

Coworker: *Shouting to all of us in the office.* “I’m on the phone to the printers; I want them to give me heavier jism. How much jism do we want?”

Had to pull her aside and explain how it’s actually pronounced, and why we were all laughing…
