The Title Of The Book Is Ceremonial
Customer: “I’m looking for a book, tea ceremonies.”
Me: “You’re looking for a book about tea ceremonies?”
Customer: “Yes.”
Me: “Do you know the name of the specific book, or would you like us to search by subject matter?”
Customer: “The book is called ‘Tea Ceremonies’. I need that exact book.”
Me: “Do you know the author’s name?”
I search the book database and find about ten books with ‘Tea Ceremonies’ in the title. I start going through the full titles and author’s names while showing her the covers of each book. As this is happening, she’s becoming more and more irate.
Customer: “Why are you so slow? I don’t understand why you can’t just find me my book?!”
Me: “Based on the information you’ve given me, ma’am, it could be any one of these ten books.”
She sighs and just picks one. I ring her up and we ship the book to her.
Two weeks later she storms back in to scream at me again.
Customer: “‘Tea Ceremonies’ isn’t what she wanted! I wanted ‘Tea Ceremonies’!”
Me: “Well unless you want to risk this happening eight more times maybe you can give me some more information?”
She magically knew the name of the author this time!
