The Terrible Twos Lead To The Thieving Threes

, , , | Right | June 6, 2025

A very flustered mum comes up to the service desk with her very pouty toddler in his pram and asks for a manager. That happened to be me at the time, and she looked so grumpy I internally sighed. I go over there, and she is exceedingly polite, if a little embarrassed.

Customer: “Hello, I need to return these.”

She then places about thirty-five of the small bubble wands we sell in the toy section on the counter. They’re all still sealed in plastic and about the size of a pen.

Me: “No worries, do you have your receipt?”

Customer: *Clearly embarrassed.* “Oh, I didn’t buy them. It turned out every time we’d come in here, he’d obviously been pinching one and stashing them in his pram somewhere, then when he couldn’t get the plastic off, he put them in the pocket on the back of my seat in the car. He’s been stealing them. I’m so sorry, I wanted to bring them back. I’ll pay for them if you want.”

Me: *Laughing.* “No, that’s totally fine. I’m shocked none of us noticed him doing it!”

Customer: “How do you think I feel?!”

Major props for honesty. I still see her around, she watches her son like a hawk and goes through the pram liner before she leaves now.
