The Noble Thing To Do

(My grandma has just been diagnosed with cancer. We see her after her second round of chemo and she doesn’t look good. In the car ride home with my boyfriend, I am having a mini meltdown because I am very close to my grandma and seeing her so sick is very upsetting)

Boyfriend: “I’m sorry sweetheart. I wish I could help. I hate how I never know the right thing to say in these moments.”

Me: “It’s okay. I’m just glad you’re here.”

Boyfriend: *suddenly brightening considerably* “I finally thought of the right thing to say right now! Do you want to go to Barnes and Noble?”

Me: “Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I do!”

(He even bought me a book. This is why I love him!)
