My agency submitted a composition and copy for a thirty-two-page corporate brochure to our client.
Client: “LOVE it.”
We’re all relieved.
Client: “BUT.”
Me: “‘But’?”
Client: “I don’t like the word ‘it’. I noticed that you included that word several times, almost on every page.”
Me: “That’s probably the case. I wouldn’t be surprised if the word ‘it’ was on every page, more than once.”
Client: “That’s what I’m getting at. Anyway, I like what you’re saying, and the way you’re saying it. Just give me a rewrite, but don’t use the word ‘it’.”
Me: “So, you’d rather we didn’t use one of the most common pronouns in the English language.”
Client: “Right. Can you get this back to me by tomorrow?”
