Me: “Sorry, sir, we’ve been short-staffed for months now. We’re trying as hard as we can.”

Customer: “Quit complaining! If you minimum-wage whiners don’t like it, you should go out and get a real job!”

Me: “Sir, that is exactly why we are short-staffed.”

He shut up after that.
