(I’ve been unemployed for about four months and I’ve been desperate for work ever since, because I’m running out of rent money. A friend of mine used to work at a local store that sold custom fit clothing.)

Friend: “Hey, you still looking for a job? I think [Company] is looking for my replacement.”

Me: “Oh, h***, yeah. What’s the gig?”

Friend: “You’d just be writing newsletters for the store once a month and email it to customers. Super simple.”

Me: “I… I don’t know how to write a newsletter. I’ve never done that before.”

Friend: “It’s super easy. Only takes a few hours, if you really sit down to do it. Oh, and you wouldn’t be getting paid. Just a heads up.”

Me: “…So you want me to take a job that I have no experience in, with no knowledge on how to perform the one required task, and you want me to do it for free?”

Friend: “Pretty much, yeah.”

Me: “No, thanks. I think McDonald’s is hiring.”
