The Forever Present Bat-Signal
I work in a call center for a GPS company. A middle-aged woman calls.
Caller: “Hello. Someone set the background of my GPS to Batman, and I want to change it.”
Me: “Okay, ma’am.”
I walk her through the process of changing the background.
Caller: “Sorry, that didn’t work.”
Me: “Okay, try resetting your GPS and turning it back on.”
I wait while she does so.
Caller: “It’s still there. Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”
This continues for about half an hour, with me trying every possible method — and several impossible ones — of changing a GPS background.
Me: “Ma’am, is the background covering the map?”
Caller: “Yes! That’s the problem!”
Her GPS’s screen had been cracked, and the LED damage was in the shape of the Bat-Signal.
