The “Farm” Isn’t What It Used To Be
We’re talking among ourselves about childhood pets.
Coworker #1: “I remember as a child, we had a pet tortoise. I came home one day, and the tortoise wasn’t there. Mom said they took it to a tortoise sanctuary so it could play with its friends.”
A few of us share pained looks.
Coworker #2: “Uh, [Coworker #1], I don’t think there was a sanctuary.”
Coworker #1: “No, there actually was a tortoise sanctuary! We went to visit, and the tortoise was still there, chilling with all his new tortoise pals. I recognized his shell and everything!”
Coworker #2: “Oh… that… that’s actually awesome!”
Coworker #3: *Sighs.* “My mom told me my dog went to a farm. Even back then, I knew there was no farm.”
Coworker #2: “I mean, you could always call your mom and double-check? It might be another tortoise situation!”
[Coworker #3] waves us off, and we change the subject. The next morning comes, and as we’re all clocking in.
Coworker #3: “So, it turns out, there was a farm! We just couldn’t keep him because we were moving from a big house to a city apartment! My mom sent me photos and everything!”
What a wholesome week this has become!
