The Engine Is Running And So Are Her Accusations
I see a woman pumping her gas while the engine is still running. I’m also a woman.
Me: “Ma’am, can you please turn your car off while you’re pumping gas.”
Customer: “Why are you discriminating against me? You didn’t ask those other two drivers to do that!”
Me: “Their engines weren’t running.”
Customer: “You should ask everyone, or no one!”
Me: “You want me to ask someone to turn off their engine, when their engine is turned off?”
Customer: “That’s not the point, you should ask everyone or no one!”
Me: “I’m not going to do that. I didn’t ask them because their engines were off.”
Customer: “And yet they’re both men! What does that tell you? Hmm?!”
Me: “That by implying what I think you’re implying you’re adding to a damaging stereotype more than taking away from it.”
She turns her engine off, finishes pumping her gas, pays, and shouts out “sexist pig” at me before driving off.
