The Daddy Diaper Deception
Each floor of our department store has both male and female restrooms, and they all have baby-changing facilities, except for the male restrooms on the first floor (due to an architectural quirk).
A couple with a baby comes up to me at a customer service/register desk.
Female Customer: “You know it’s really shameful that you only have baby-changing areas in the women’s restrooms! Pretty sexist in this day and age!”
Male Customer: “It’s okay, dear, you’ve made your point. We can go finish our shopping—”
Female Customer: “—no! It’s not right! Someone needs to complain!”
Me: “Actually, ma’am, we do have baby changing areas in—”
Male Customer: *Urgently.* “—come on, dear! Let’s not make a scene!”
Female Customer: “Wait, he’s trying to say something!”
Me: “Yes, as I was saying, we actually do have baby changing areas in—”
Male Customer: *Frantic now.* “Come on, dear! We’re going to be late!”
Female Customer: “Stop interrupting him! And late for what?!” *To me.* “What were you saying?”
Me: *Quickly in case I am interrupted again.* “All our male restrooms have baby changing facilities apart from on this floor. You’ll find them on the basement, second, third and fourth floors!”
Female Customer: “Oh… well that’s okay then.”
As they start to walk away.
Female Customer: *To her husband.* “Wait, you use the restrooms on the other floors all the time!”
Male Customer: *Feigning ignorance.* “Do I? Huh… I guess I didn’t notice.”
Let’s hope Dad does his fair share of diaper changing in the future…
