The Customers Had Better Step Up Their Fashion Game

, , , , , | Working | November 25, 2020

I work at a bank that has an extremely strict dress code. However, they’re loosening up and letting us dress up for Halloween. Costumes must be approved by your manager and you can only wear jeans if they’re an essential part of your costume. I’m thinking through costume options when I get an idea and wave the branch manager over.

Me: “Can I dress up as a customer and wear jeans on Halloween?”

Branch Manager: “Is this just so you can get away with jeans at work?”

Me: “Yep!”

Branch Manager: *Laughs* “Go for it. That’s a great idea, actually.”

I do it. My coworkers think it’s hilarious and the customers love it. Later that day, several members of upper management walk in.

Manager #2: “What are you, [My Name]?”

Me: “I’m a customer!”

Manager #2: “…”

I didn’t get in trouble because the branch manager had approved it. But we weren’t allowed to dress up for Halloween the next year.
