The Cursed Conclusion
College & University | Learning
| May 7, 2016
(I’m taking a sociology research methods class, and one student asks about the use of quotes in our final papers.)
Student: “Is it okay if we use curse words in our papers?”
Professor: “If it’s a quote from your field notes or interviews, yes; you don’t want to misrepresent people. However, you can’t say ‘in conclusion, [Professor] is a dumb-a**’ or ‘[Professor] is a shi**y professor.’”
(The class burst into laughter)
