The Couponator 49: The Level 99 Checkout Clerk
We have this customer who is always trying to scam us by using coupons for the wrong product, sometimes in the most bold ways. She got me once or twice when I was new but at this point if she sees me working, she runs off.
Most recently, she came up buying a bunch of Dawn and laundry pods and hands me some Poise Pad coupons.
Me: “Oh, I’m sorry I think you handed me the wrong coupon ma’am. These are for Poise Pads.”
Customer: “I know what they are for.”
Me: “You have Dawn and Tide Pods here, not Poise Pads.”
Customer: “Okay fine I’m just not gonna get anything.”
So naturally she walks off and I have to put back these five bottles of Dawn and five packs of Tide Pods.
The next time she comes in I am closing with a new employee who is working up front that night. When I notice her there, I warn him but as it works out I end up watching the front of the store for him for a few minutes while he takes out the garbage right as she walks up.
She parks her cart there and pretends to look in her purse.
Customer: “Oh, I forgot my wallet. Just let me go grab it.”
She bolts out the door never to return.
New Employee: “She isn’t coming back, is she?”
Me: “Nope.”
New Employee: “So now you have to put back all her items; isn’t that annoying?”
Me: “It is, but I’m just proud of the fact that I’ve become the person that the customers run from. I feel like I just level-capped my character!”
