The Couponator 43: The Visionary Gossiper

, , , , , , | Right | January 31, 2024

I am serving a customer who spends the entire transaction on her phone. It’s annoying, but it is what it is, and I can’t be offended by every rude customer. I state her total, and she swipes her card, still on the phone, gossiping loudly and freely.

I start scanning the next customer’s items, and the phone customer comes back over to me.

Customer: “Wait! I had coupons!”

Me: “Ma’am, you have to present your coupons for me to be able to use them.”

Customer: “But they were in my bag!”

Me: “I couldn’t see them there.”

Customer: “But you should have known!”

Me: “How?”

Customer: “You… just… should have!”

My current customer speaks up.

Next Customer: “How? With X-ray vision?”

Customer: “They should just ask!

Next Customer: “She did! Twice! But you were too busy gossiping about who Julie slept with at the work party last Wednesday and how you couldn’t wait to be the one to let it slip to her husband, Jerome.”

Customer: *Going red* “That was a private conversation!”

She starts storming out but turns back to have one last word.

Customer: “And Jerome is her boyfriend, not her husband!”
