The Computers Aren’t Working And Neither Are The Customers
Our library has computers with Internet for public use. The computer department is upgrading all the software so we are told the computers will be down all day. A week before, I place signs on the front door, at the circulation desk, and by each computer saying they will be unavailable on Friday.
On Friday, I place “out of order” signs on each monitor.
Me: *To my coworker* “No one will read the signs, but at least we tried.”
Sure enough, a few minutes later, a man comes in, looks at the sign on the front door, walks over to look at each computer, and then comes to the circulation desk.
Customer: “So, are the computers working?”
Sadly, we were asked that same question a dozen more times that day.
