The Chicken Isn’t Raw But The Profits Are

, , , , | Right | May 16, 2021

I bag stuff, bring carts in off the lot, and clean up trash; I do a bit of everything. An elderly lady who can’t get out of her car by herself calls me over and gives me some money to buy her a rotisserie chicken. So being the good, honest employee that I try to be every time I go to work, I get her a chicken.

About ten or so minutes later, the lady calls me back over and ORDERS me to take the chicken back in.

Customer: “I want a refund! This chicken is raw!

It isn’t. Our deli cooks every chicken that goes in their oven for two hours. I later learn that we have complaints like this all the time because people think parts of the chicken aren’t dark enough and look undercooked.

Me: “I can go get you another chicken.”

But she isn’t having it.

Customer: “You’re not going back inside just so you can bring me another raw chicken.”

So being the good, honest employee that I try to be every time I go to work, I went and got her her refund.

The joke was on her, though. I still had the two-dollar tip she’d given me.
