The Boy Who Cried Beowulf

(I’m in English class about to take a quiz on ‘Beowulf,’ which we’d read aloud in class.)
Teacher: “So before we begin with our quiz, does anyone have any questions?”
Classmate: “Yeah, actually… Is Beowulf an actual wolf?”
Teacher: “Um… no. Did you do the reading? We even read it a second time in class.”
Another Classmate: “Well if he wasn’t a wolf, then why did he fight those monster guys?”
(My teacher looked completely gobsmacked.)
Me: “Wow, we might as well have read it in Old English, huh, [Teacher]?”
