The Birds, The Bees, And The BNC Connectors

While I was attending a lecture in HVAC school, the teacher said something about male and female electrical connectors. I happened to be sitting next to a Hispanic guy who spoke passable, but somewhat limited English. He leaned over and asked me to clarify.

Me: “Okay, fine. Electrical connectors have one terminal like this.”

I held up a finger.

Me: “And one terminal like this.”

I made a circle with my thumb and index finger.

Me: “…Aaaand they go together this way.”

I inserted my finger in the circle. After a brief pause, but no “Ah-Ha”, I forged ahead. So male (held up finger) and female (made circle, then demonstrated again).

He did his very best not to laugh out loud and disrupt the lecture, and almost managed it, then bumped me on the shoulder and said:

Classmate: “Yeah, makes sense, man. Thanks.”
