The Abeyance Of Obedience

(Some classmates and I are sitting at lunch with one of our associate professors. Another student approaches to sit down.)

Student: “Hey, I actually know everyone at this table!”

(The student sits down.)

Professor: *sarcastically* “Then go away! Meet new people!”

Student: *enthusiastically* “Okay!”

(The student gets up and looks for another table, and I start laughing at his quick compliance.)

Professor: “If only everyone else were that obedient. If only my kids were that obedient!”
