Tell Them To Go Phish!
A phone rings behind the teller line.
Me: “Thank you for calling [Bank]. My name is [My Name]; how can I assist you today?”
Caller: “I have been getting emails from you guys saying that my account has been compromised, but I don’t have accounts with you.”
Me: “Oh, I am sorry to hear that. Here at [Bank] we do not email our clients if there is an issue detected with the account. It is likely that those emails are fraudulent and you should just block them.”
Caller: “Yeah, I tried, but I keep getting them.”
Me: “Do the emails have a phone number for you to call?”
Caller: “No, they want me to send my social and ID information.”
Me: “Yes, sir, that sounds like a fraudulent email from someone pretending to be us. I just advise you to keep blocking them and not responding.”
Caller: “Well, I want them to stop!”
I realize he wants ME to stop emails that are NOT coming from our company!
Me: “Well, sir, unfortunately, I do not know what else to tell you. It sounds like you are not a client of ours, so we don’t have your email address and the emails are not coming from us.”
Caller: “Thanks for nothing!” *Hangs up*
