Technically Correct: Thesaurus Edition
I work in a hotel. It’s early summer, right after spring break, and shortly before all the families show up — a slightly less busy time. The phone rings, and as I am behind the front desk, I answer it.
Me: “This is [Hotel]. How can I help you?”
Caller: “I want to stay on [dates].”
Dutifully, I look up the dates and see that we are completely booked solid at that time.
Me: “I’m so sorry, ma’am, but I’m afraid we are all sold out on those dates.”
Caller: *To someone on the other end* “She says she’s scared they ain’t got no rooms!”
