Taxing Taxing, Part 23
I live near a state border. My state charges 7.75% sales tax. The neighboring state has zero sales tax on “essentials” like shoes, clothing, etc.
It is a weekly ordeal to have to explain to some customers that they bought a shoe in another state and did not pay sales tax, so when they return it in my state, we do NOT refund sales tax.
Customer: “But sales tax is a state law! You have to refund it!
Me: “Okay. I will refund you all the state sales tax that you paid.”
Customer: “You didn’t refund anything!”
Me: “Exactly.”
Ugh… counting down the days until I graduate.
