Unfiltered Story #145498

, , , | Unfiltered | March 29, 2019

(I work behind the customer service desk at a grocery store. A woman called the store the complain about the lobster she had just bought.)

Me: “Hello, (grocery store), this is (my name), how can I help you?”

Customer: “Hi, um, I bought five lobsters and I think something’s wrong with them.”

Me: “What’s the matter?”

Customer: “Well, when we cut into them, they were still… jiggly.”

Me: “Did you cook them?”

Customer: “We ordered them steamed. They were black, I thought that was a part of the steaming process.”

Me: “…Alright, well, um, bring them in then, I guess.”

(They somehow hadn’t noticed that the seafood department had gotten their order wrong, and instead of just boiling the lobsters themselves, they decided to just cut open “not quite dead yet” crustaceans. I had to refund them in full.)

Newspaper Sales Are Declining

, , , , , | Working | July 19, 2018

(I’m sitting at work when my cell phone rings. It has rung at the same time every morning at work, and it is always the same people: the local newspaper, trying to sell me a subscription. I have asked the last three times to be taken off their list because I am not interested. I pick up the phone, and the following conversation ensues:)

Me: “Hello?”

Salesperson: “Hi, this is [Salesperson] from [Newspaper]. Now are you today?”

Me: “Honestly, not very good. You guys are calling me every day at work when I have repeatedly asked to be taken off your list because I’m really not interested. I am working, and I’m going to start getting in trouble for being on my phone.”

Salesperson: *rudely* “Look, this is my first time calling you; you don’t need to be getting mad at me. I’m just trying to do my job!”

Me: “I’m not mad at you, and I understand that you are doing your job. I’m just letting you know I’m really not interested. Is there any way to be removed from this call list?”

Salesperson: “Sure, okay… but would you be interested in—”

Me: *talking over him* “Well, now I’m mad!”

(I hung up and blocked their number. Should have done that in the first place!)

Compassion Does Not Register

, , , , , | Right | October 9, 2017

(I work at a clothing store, and am working on a new shipment at the back counter when I start to get double vision and can barely stand. My manager comes from the back. I tell her, we call an ambulance, and she goes to the back to print my register sheet. A customer has been shopping right next to us the entire time. She walks to the register and looks at me where I am now sitting and trying not to pass out. She tells me she is ready. I get up, stumble to her, stand in front of the register, and stare at her for a good two minutes, still trying not to pass out.)

Manager: *coming from the back* “What are you doing?! Sit down!”

Me: “I think she’s ready.”

(After the customer has left.)

Manager: “Wasn’t she listening to us the whole time while we called an ambulance for you?”

Me: “Yup.”

Manager: “I hate people.”
