June 14th was World Blood Donation Day! We’re sorry to say we missed it, but we’re trying to make up for it today.

We know that for some, the idea of donating blood can be daunting. Needles are never pleasant, and some people have genuine phobias. We are also aware that some people genuinely cannot donate, due to either health reasons or the law — your opinions on some of those laws have definitely been voiced in the comments!

But for those who can, it is a vital, life-saving act that is more urgent now than ever before in these very strange and testing times. We’ve compiled the following nine stories about people donating blood. Some are funny, some are educational, and some are reminders as to how seriously the health of the blood being donated is enforced, often admittedly frustratingly so. Good customers, to be fair, are not that uncommon- if they weren’t then the bad ones wouldn’t stand out. A rarer breed altogether, are the awesome customers; the ones that will stand up for an employee being abused by a jerk, or will recognize the tiredness of a worker at the end of a long shift and will go out of their way to perk them up.
