Make It Rain(bow)

, , , , , , , , | Friendly | April 20, 2015

(I’m hanging out with my friend and her fiancée, picking out music for my group to play at their wedding. We’re all female.)

Friend: “Oooh, have you got- You do! Let’s put Somewhere Over the Rainbow in, that’s perfect.”

Me: “Okay.” *checks it off list*

Friend: “And then…” *leafs through binder* “Yeah, let’s do Rainbow Connection, too.”

Fiancée: *singing* “Why are there so many songs about rainbows?”

Friend: “Uhhh, because it’s a gay wedding. Duh.”

Fiancée: “Good point.” *keeps singing*

The Beatles’ Bitter Break-Up

, , , | Romantic | February 23, 2015

(I am a fan of The Beatles, but my partner is not. My partner and I are in bed watching TV when I express a strong desire for cookies.)

Partner: “No snacks! We haven’t done anything today but lie in bed! We’re going to end up like Yoko Ono and… uh…” *realizes he’s forgetting a Beatle’s name* “Uh… lemon?”

The Conductor Isn’t Over The Rainbow Just Yet

, , , | Learning | February 6, 2015

(During my band class, I and a few friends start getting off topic. It ends in us singing the first few lines of Over the Rainbow, and we giggle a lot.)

Me: *finishes singing* “I wonder if [Conductor] noticed…”

Conductor: “I did. You’re not in Kansas anymore.”

A Tempting Melody

, | Friendly | January 30, 2015

(At choir practice, my friend and I are talking about our parts in the song we’re about to sing. She is an alto and I am a soprano.)

Friend: “Ugh, alto.”

Me: “Come to the high side. We have awesome melodies.”

A Prehistoric Christmas Tradition

, , , | Related | December 9, 2014

(My mom got her boyfriend The Beatles “Rock Band” for Christmas one year, which my little sister quickly became obsessed with playing. She doesn’t know anything about the Beatles or how to select which songs she wants to play, so she’s always asking my mom’s boyfriend for help.)

Sister: “Can you help me pick a song?”

Mom’s Boyfriend: “Sure. Which song did you want to play?”

Sister: “Lucky in the Sky With Dinosaurs!”

(We couldn’t stop laughing. We never call the song by its real name anymore.)
